FAQ?S ABOUT DR SIEGEL'S TRIPLE FIBER MIX

What is TRIPLE FIBER MIX?

TRIPLE FIBER MIX is a blend of 3 natural fibers combined with nutritional yeast.
Dr.Richard Siegel, a Plastic Surgeon at Kaiser Hospital in Honolulu since 1975, created
this mix after more than 20 years of study and experimentation. To make your own, mix
together equal volumes of Oat Bran, Wheat Bran, Psyllium, and Nutritional yeast.

But what is Fiber? And are all plant fibers the same?

Dietary fiber is the part of a plant or grain which the body cannot digest. All fibers are
not the same. There are 2 main types: soluble and insolub1e.

What?s the difference?

Insoluble fiber, such as wheat bran, increases fecal bulk and accelerates the movement of
food through the digestive track. Wheat bran, quite simply, is one of nature's best
laxatives and is widely used to treat constipation. Insoluble fiber promotes a healthy
colon, reducing the risk of appendicitis, irritable bowel, polyps, diverticulosis and
possibly colon cancer.

Soluble fiber, such as psyllium and oat bran, slows movement of food through the
digestive tract, enhancing satiety. More importantly, soluble fiber radically alters sugar
and fat metabolism, resulting in lower serum insulin and lower cholesterol. By
improving sugar metabolism, soluble fiber reduces your risk of developing diabetes. In
patients who already have diabetes, generous fiber intake lowers blood sugar, reduces
insulin requirements and improves glycemic control. High fiber intake also lowers serum
cholesterol, lowers blood pressure, and reduces the risk of heart attack.

Is fiber a carbohydrate? I thought too much carbohydrate wasn't healthy.

Great question. Yes, fiber is a carbohydrate. But not all carbohydrates are the same.
Refined foods, like soft drinks, white bread and cakes are known as High Glycemic
carbos, because they are rapidly absorbed and cause a high and rapid rise in insulin
output. Most unrefined food, like vegetables, fruits, oatmeal and whole wheat bread are
called Low Glycemic carbos, because they are more slowly absorbed by the body and
stimulate a smaller, less rapid insulin output. Diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity and high
incidence of heart attack results from eating too many refined high glycemic foods.

So where does fiber fit in?

Fiber, remember, is not digestible. So fiber is like an 'ultra low glycemic,' a food that
counteracts many of the negative effects of our refined Western diet. Fiber also plays a
role in fat metabolism, trapping fat in the digestive tract like a sponge so that we can expel it
instead of absorb it.

Yes, everybody needs fiber every day. Fiber is very, very good for you. I tried a hi-
fiber vegetarian diet many years ago, but I could not stick with it. So to be sure I got lots
of fiber each day, I developed this Triple Fiber Mix and drink it with orange juice each
morning.

This sounds too good to be true. Aren't there any negatives or risks with fiber?
There are some negatives but very little risk.

1)    It doesn't taste great, and the gritty texture takes some getting used to. It tastes
best  with fresh orange or grapefruit juice. Add enough juice so it's easy to drink.
2)    You may experience some bloating, cramps and excess gas for the first few weeks
after starting the mix. This is normal, as your body is literally remodeling itself.
As you increase your fiber intake, if you get some gas and cramps, cut back on
your fiber for a couple of days and then slowly increase once again.

There have been rare cases of allergy to psyllium, and also to nutritional yeast. Two
cases were reported of children ingesting fiber without liquid, resulting in a 'besoars'
or mass in the stomach.

I want to lose weight fast. Can I just eat TRIPLE FIBER MIX instead of meals?
No. Eating nothing but fiber isn't much better than starvation. You'll get weak and
irritable. And it's not a good idea to lose weight fast. It took you a long time to put it
on and you need to be patient when taking it off. The body responds best to
gradualness. If you have a large helping of fiber before breakfast, you can surely reduce
the size of your breakfast meal. And many find that a small helping of fiber mix half an
hour before  lunch ordinner helps cut down their appetite. But please don't eat
TRIPLE FIBER MIX instead of meals.

Do you really want to get trim?... Stop thinking and talking about weight. If you want to
reshape your body, concentrate on becoming more fit instead of losing weight.

Start this 3~part program:

1)   TRIPLE FIBER MIX each morning, slowly becoming more conscious about your
       food choices at each meal.
2)   3X per week FITNESS program, such as a 40-minute morning or evening walk
      around a park.
3)   Put your SCALE away for 3 months.

Forget making choices because of what the scale says. Make your choices based on
learning what foods do in your body. Fiber and fitness means freedom from the scale.

Why do you recommend TRIPLE FIBER MIX in the morning, before breakfast?
Wouldn't it be better to take it 3 times a day, before meals?

The idea is to get a lot of fiber in your diet without a lot of fuss and bother. Its fine to
divide your fiber dose into thirds and have it before each meal. But sometimes this
results in having more than one large stool a day, which is perfectly healthy but may be
inconvenient. Some people find that once a day in the evening, before dinner, works
well, so experiment and see what works for you.

What makes TRIPLE FIBER MIX so good? Why not just eat a bowl of bran cereal?
TRIPLE FIBER MIX is a blend of 3 natural fibers combined with nutritional yeast. It
provides the scientifically proven benefits of both soluble and insoluble fiber. Taken
once a day with juice, it's an easy way to increase the fiber in your diet. Unlike eating a
single fiber, such as a bowl of wheat bran, this combination of fibers (even in very
large doses) rarely produces excess gas and cramping, allowing you to slowly and
progressively increase the daily dose. Once your body gets used to a large dose of fiber
each day, over time your colon will be healthier, your cholesterol will go down and your
risk of heart disease and diabetes will be much lower. But remember: you must commit
to at least a 3-month trial of TRIPLE FIBER MIX. I strongly encourage you to get a
lipid profile (which includes a cholesterol test) before starting on fiber. When you check
your cholesterol after 4-6 months, the results will convince you how effective fiber is in
promoting good health, And best of all, you'll feel great. And it costs only pennies a day.

OK.  I'm ready to start taking TRIPLE FIBER MIX. How do I start?

DIRECTIONS - Once a day (try it first thing in the morning):
Week 1 ? Place 2 heaping tablespoons of Tripple Fiber Mix in a glass or jar.
Add about 6oz. of juice (orange, grape or apple) Stir or shake briskly.
                Drink promptly.
Week 2 ? ¼ cup of Fiber Mix, with sufficient juice (6-8oz.) to make it easily drinkable.
Week 3 ? 1/3 cup of Fiber Mix
Week 4  - ½  cup of Fiber Mix

Always drink a glass of water after taking Fiber Mix. Your body needs extra water when
your fiber intake goes up. Be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

How much fiber does the average person need every day? Is one-half cup of TRIPLE
FIBER MIX each day the optimal dose for everyone?
The effects of fiber vary from one person to the next. A small dose, 2 TBSP a day, is
often sufficient to prevent constipation but may provide little protection against diabetes
and heart disease. Fiber is very, very good for you.  If you've been taking 1/2 cup a day
for at least 3 months and your cholesterol is still high, it's fine to increase your daily
intake beyond 1/2 a cup and to add other fiber-rich foods to your diet. I take 1 cup of
TRIPLE FIBER MIX every day. Find the dose that is right for you.

To your health,
Richard J. Siegel, MD.
